Cecil County Dragway - Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Drags - June 12, 2021

Missed us live? Check out our Instagram story from Cecil County!

After the on-going Covid 19 pandemic and a long cold, snowy winter it was good to be racing and reconnecting with friends again! The weather was warm, overcast, and very humid when we arrived at Cecil County, but improved as the day progressed. The precipitation was limited to Cicadas…but no rain!

We began the day with a 22 car field but began eliminations with 18. Don Fardie, Dave Fenzel, Paul McCorkle, and Ted Phillips had issues that prevented them from making eliminations.

Qualifying results were as follows:

Category Racer
Top MPH No data from track
Best RT .005 - Dan Bergeron

Eliminations Round One:

Perhaps we should call this “Red-Light” round one as 4 of the 9 races were won/lost by fouls

Race One: Dan Bergeron and Jack Zielsdorff (glad you are back-Jack!) started off eliminations. Jack went .010 red handing the win to Dan who ran a 12.69 on his 12.74 dial.

Race Two: Jim Wheeler met Gordy Ford in the Marylander in race two. Jim advanced with a 10.74 on a 10.66 dial with a .049 light. Gordy had a .400 light and ran a 10.494 on his 10.60 dial.

Race Three: Bob Bower lined up against Ed Linus for this one. Another red light as Ed fouled by .017 handing the win to Bob who ran 9.91 on his 9.85 dial with a .029 reaction.

Race Four: Scott Hasko and Frank Johnson went at it in race four. Scott took the win with a .077 reaction, running 11.84 on a 11.39 dial. Frank had a .560 light running 13.38 on his 12.79 dial.

Race Five: In yet another red-light round Ray Bruno defeated Carly Boyer as Carly went .018 red. Ray had a .060 reaction and ran 10.94 on his 10.83 dial.

Race Six: Robert Carson defeated Brian Hutchinson in this double breakout race. Robert ran a 10.47 on his 10.50 dial. Brian ran 11.94 on his 12.00 dial handing the win to Robert who ran closer to index.

Race Seven: Bruce Deming in the Rattle Trap squared-off against Pat Kelly in the Verminator. This one was won on reaction time. Bruce came out on top with a .060 reaction, running 10.27 on his 10.20 dial, to Pat’s 10.57 on a 10.50 dial with a .233 reaction.

Race Eight: Ironically, the last race of round one was also decided by foul. Ron Carson went .208 red handing the win to Kevin Lynch. Kevin ran an excellent race with a lightning-fast .006 reaction and a tight 10.53 on his 10.49 dial

Eliminations Round Two:

Race One: Scott Hasko lined up against Bob Bower in race one of round two. Bob went .702 red giving the win to Scott who ran 11.38 on his 11.40 dial.

Race Two: This race of Jersey boys had Dan Bergeron going up against Ray Bruno. Both drivers had similar reaction times but Dan ran 12.74 on his 12.69 dial, closer than Ray’s 10.90 on a 10.83 dial and enough for the win.

Race Three: Tommy Magers and Jim Wheeler dueled in race three. Both drivers fouled: Jim .055 and Tommy .049 with Tommy advancing.

Race Four: Robert Carson and Bruce Deming were paired for this one. Robert ran a near-perfect 10.481 on a 10.48 dial. Bruce broke out running 10.16 on his 10.20 dial.

Race Five: The final race of the round was a bye for Kevin Lynch who was able to get some more performance data running 10.55 on his 10.49 dial.

Eliminations Round Three:

Race One: The first match up of round three was another double foul. Kevin Lynch fouled by .077 and Dan Bergeron by .018, with Dan advancing to round four.

Race Two: The second race of round three was Robert Carson vs. Tommy Magers. This was a double breakout race with both drivers having very similar reaction times. Tommy ran a 10.377 on his 10.41 dial. Robert ran a 10.464 on his 10.41 dial, advancing to the semi-final round.

Race Three: Scott Hasko had the bye and opportunity for a dial-in check. He ran a consistent 11.41 on his 11.38 index.

Eliminations Round Four - Semi Finals:

Race One: Scott Hasko and Dan Bergeron started off round four. Dan had a slightly better reaction time (.190 to Scott’s .230) but Scott got the win, running closer to his dial with another 11.41 on his 11.38. Dan ran a 12.79 on a 12.67.

Race Two: Robert Carson had the bye and ran a 10.45 on a 10.48 dial. The final round is set!

Eliminations Round Five - Finals:

The final round was a double breakout race. Robert ran a 10.46 on his 10.48 dial. Scott ran 11.377 on his 11.40 dial. By rule, closer to index wins. If my math is correct the margin of victory was 003!

Getting out of the sun and heat took on many forms! Under an umbrella, under the concession awning, or stylish hats…
